Here is a summary of our story from 1999 to the present day.
The “Friends of Paganini” Association (Amici di Paganini, APS) was founded in 1999 with the aim of increasing the awareness about Niccolò Paganini and his music by organizing concerts and other events dedicated to the music of Paganini and any related topics, conferences, conventions, meetings at schools, guided tours, publications, travels to places that are linked to the great composer from Genoa.
In 2014 the Association has created an itinerary of twelve stops in the historical city centre of Genoa identifying the most important places related to the life of Paganini, marking them with ‘meeting stones’.
After setting up exhibitions and seasonal concerts – Hommage a Paganini and Gems a la Paganini – ever since 2009, in 2017 the Association has created the Paganini Genoa Festival, which is held annually in October, with the main goal of making the most of the figure of the great violinist from Genoa in his native city and in order to enhance cultural tourism in his name. The Festival is managed by an Organizing Committee that includes the Region of Liguria, the Municipality of Genoa, the Carlo Felice Theatre Foundation, the Conservatory Niccolò Paganini and the Hruby Foundation.
The Association collaborates with and promotes Paganini-related initiatives at national and international levels. In particular, it has established a synergy with the two festivals dedicated to Paganini in the cities of Parma, where the violinist is buried, and Carro, the birthplace of the Paganini family.
In 2020, the Association created the Paganini Center for research and education within its organization. The center aims to advance studies dedicated to the great musician and promote knowledge of Paganini’s music in schools of all levels.
The Association played a key role in the establishment of the three Paganini Rooms in the Musei di Strada Nuova (Museums of the New Street) in the municipality of Genoa in 2017, and collaborated on their multimedia enhancement in 2021.
In 2020, the Municipality granted a space at Via Garibaldi 11/13R as the legal headquarters of the Association, where they have created a Paganini Point open to the public. This serves as a place for information, consultation, and thematic services.
